I am a member of FA Watch, a new campaign group recently set up to monitor some of the stranger decisions of the Football Association – it is an organisation open to fans of all Premier League clubs.

FA Watch represents football fans of all English Premier League clubs who are worried that the Football Association (FA) as an organisation are either unable or unwilling to police the laws of the game in a fair, objective and consistent manner.

FA Watch is committed to highlighting specific examples of such perceived bias where clubs and players do not appear to have been treated by the FA in a fair and objective manner. This will be solely in relation to incidents of violent conduct and goal celebrations where referees and subsequently the FA’s own Regulatory Commission have dealt with incidents inconsistent with what would normally be expected.

FA Watch will monitor games in the Premier League from now on and invite the Football Association to take action in appropriate cases where it seems the authorities may be reluctant to act. The campaign will hopefully over time collect evidence that will either prove or disprove the notion that the Big 4 clubs are treated in a way different to other Premier League clubs. In the meantime FA Watch has written to the Secretary to the Regulatory Commission drawing their attention to incidents.

We have invited their comments, which will be published in due course at: http://www.fawatch.org/forum/
Remember the sites purpose is to represent every club in the league, but FA Watch is most importantly dependent on your support, so hopefully with this in mind as many of you as possible will come over from time to time to see how we're doing.
Reds announce record-breaking sponsorship deal

Quote:Liverpool have announced the "largest ever commercial deal" in the history of the club with Standard Chartered Bank sealing a four-year sponsorship deal.

It is reported that the agreement is worth in the region of £80m and the announcement signals the end of Liverpool's lengthy association with Carlsberg, who have been the club's shirt sponsors since 1992.

Standard Chartered will become the club's primary sponsor from July next year and the deal, confirmed by managing director Christian Purslow, will run until the end of the 2013-14 season.

"The sponsorship opportunity attracted a huge level of interest from a wide array of globally recognised brands," Purslow told the club's official website.

"It is a real sign of the progress we have made at Liverpool that we have been able to secure the largest ever commercial deal in our history."

News of the new sponsorship deal comes just three days after co-owner George Gillett claimed the club are in a stronger economic position than at any other time in their history.

Plans for a new 60,000-seater stadium at Stanley Park have been delayed due to the global financial climate but Purslow has hinted that Monday's news could reinvigorate the project.

"The overall financial health of our football club is a key ingredient of being able to get the stadium project back up and running," Purslow said.

"This is a huge step forward for the club financially and that can only be helpful to create the conditions in which we can restart the stadium project.''

LIVERPOOL ANNOUNCE NEW SHIRT SPONSOR

Quote:Liverpool FC and Standard Chartered Bank announced today they had agreed a four year deal for the bank to become the club's main sponsor - the largest commercial agreement in Liverpool's history.

The agreement, which starts in July 2010 and runs through to the end of the 2013-14 season, will see the bank's name and logo appear on the Liverpool shirt.

Liverpool FC is the most successful club in English football, enjoying a global following most recently evidenced in its highly successful pre-season tour of Singapore and Thailand. As official club sponsors, Standard Chartered will enjoy a major rights package which will provide the platform to significantly step up the Bank's brand awareness across its core markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

standardchartered2Standard Chartered PLC, listed on both London and Hong Kong stock exchanges, ranks among the top 25 companies in the FTSE-100 by market capitalisation. The Bank has more than doubled its revenue and profits over the last five years and has performed consistently well, delivering record results throughout the recent financial crisis.

Christian Purslow, Managing Director of Liverpool Football Club, pictured above signing the contract alongside Standard Chartered chairman John Peace, commented: "This partnership brings together two highly successful organisations with a really strong cultural and strategic fit. The sponsorship opportunity attracted a huge level of interest from a wide array of globally recognised brands and in Standard Chartered we believe we have the ideal partner to move forward and help develop our global ambitions for the club. It is a real sign of the progress we have made at Liverpool that we have been able to secure the largest ever commercial deal in our history."

Peter Sands, Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered PLC, said: "This is a great partnership. We are excited to be working with such a famous global brand as Liverpool Football Club for the next four years. This is an outstanding opportunity for Standard Chartered, our customers and shareholders, and for Liverpool, its players and fans

"We see many opportunities to continue growing our business, particularly as Asia, Africa and the Middle East are emerging from the global downturn more quickly than the West. This sponsorship will drive a step change in brand recognition in our key markets and will provide an additional catalyst for our business growth."

BREAKING NEWS: Fabio Aurelio injured again in freak training ground incident

Not too sure if its real!

Quote:After a freak pre-season incident in which Fabio Aurelio was injured whilst having a back-yard kickabout with his son (!), Liverpool fans were looking forward to the Brazilian's return to action. Unfortunately, Aurelio's comeback is on hold yet again after another freak injury sustained at Liverpool's Melwood training ground today.

Liverpool-Kop understands that whilst preparing for the usual five-a-side game, Aurelio dislocated his shoulder whilst pulling on his five-a-side training bib.

It appears that Aurelio picked up a smaller youth team bib by accident, and the resultant tightness when trying to pull it on directly caused the injury.

Liverpool physio Dave Galley explained:

"The dislocation occurred because Fabio pulled the bib down at the wrong angle, and the consequent pressure exerted by the tightness of the bib unfortunately caused his shoulder to pop out of place.

"We had to cut the bib away, as trying to pull off something wedged so tightly against his body would have exacerbated the injury".
Aurelio was devastated by his latest piece of injury bad luck:

"Just when i thought I was out of this injury nightmare, it PULLED ME BACK IN!"

Rafa Benitez was unfazed by this latest set-back:

"It is not a problem, no? We still have Dossena, who gives us lots of options, no? Our idea is also to move Gerrard to left back, as he is very versatile, and perhaps use Mascherano behind Torres. For sure it is a short-term solution, but I think it will work, no?".
The Reds will kick off their European campaign at home to Debreceni VSC on September 16 before travelling to Italy to face Fiorentina.
A double header with Lyon will then follow ahead of a trip to Debreceni VSC. The group fixtures are concluded at home to Fiorentina on December 9.

Goalkeepers:
Diego Cavalieri, Pepe Reina, David Martin.

Defenders:
Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger, Fabio Aurelio, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Emiliano Insua, Jamie Carragher, Stephen Darby, Martin Kelly, Martin Skrtel, Andrea Dossena.
Midfielders:
Forwards:
Fernando Torres, Andriy Voronin, Albert Riera, Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel, David Ngog, David Amoo, Nathan Eccleston.
Good players, despite I'm a bit disappointed Pacheco isn't there, but hopefully Benitez will allow Amoo (wide striker or wide-man) and Eccleston (wide forward) to participate in the CL matches and let them express themselves.

A double header with Lyon will then follow ahead of a trip to Debreceni VSC. The group fixtures are concluded at home to Fiorentina on December 9.

Diego Cavalieri, Pepe Reina, David Martin.

Defenders:
Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger, Fabio Aurelio, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Emiliano Insua, Jamie Carragher, Stephen Darby, Martin Kelly, Martin Skrtel, Andrea Dossena.

Good players, despite I'm a bit disappointed Pacheco isn't there, but hopefully Benitez will allow Amoo (wide striker or wide-man) and Eccleston (wide forward) to participate in the CL matches and let them express themselves.

Quote:Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack says the Blues have taken extra motivation from Liverpool's inconsistent start to the season.

The Reds, expected to be one of Chelsea's rivals for the Barclays Premier League title this season, lost two of their opening three opening games.

Chelsea remain top of the table with four wins out of four under new coach Carlo Ancelotti.

But, according to Ballack, Liverpool's stuttering start to the campaign has been a source of inspiration for Chelsea.

"It was a surprise that Liverpool lost twice in the first three games and it gives us extra motivation," said Ballack. "All we can do is win games. We have to focus on ourselves and if we play the best we can we can win the league."

Ballack, who has scored two goals so far this season, himself claims to be in top condition after a summer without an international tournament.

Even though his tour of America was curtailed by a minor toe injury, it was not a major setback for the Germany captain.

"It was a good pre-season," said Ballack. "The finish to last season with Guus Hiddink, the team looked well and played good football and that is what we have done at the beginning of this season.

"The coach is always important to put a good atmosphere in the team and since Carlo Ancelotti arrived he has brought the team back together.

"We are always happy when we are in first position. It is early in the season and we know there is a lot to do to keep this position, but the victories have given us a lot of confidence."

Ballack's confidence in Ancelotti's new system and their fine start to the campaign is echoed by goalkeeper Petr Cech.

The 27-year-old heaped praise on the new formation selected by the Italian coach.

Chelsea have been a revelation under Ancelotti's 'diamond' formation at home and a '4-3-2-1' system on their travels.

Cech is currently on international duty preparing for the Czech Republic's World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and San Marino but says Chelsea's position at the top flight summit is fully deserved.

"In the first place we are playing with a different system," said Cech. "There is no problem about it though, as we have adopted it quite quickly.

"The advantage was that the team had been working well even before Mr Ancelotti came in, and it helped that we stayed together as a team."

The Blues cruised to a 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday and while the side played some scintillating football against the top flight new boys, Cech is refusing to get carried away.

"Everyone knows that the season will be long and demanding, every single point counts," added Cech.

"Even the teams which will be at the bottom end of the table at the end of the season fighting against the drop are trying to pick up as many points as possible.

"So far we have played against clubs which belong near the middle of the table. The pressure has been on us, because they had nothing to lose.

"Everyone expected us to have maximum points, which we have deservedly achieved so far."

Didn't realize that there was not a match-thread for the game.

Anyway, it was a pretty awful performance. Against Villa, I thought we were unlucky, but today, the performance was dire in more or less every sense. Johnson's shot was the only bright point in an abject first-half.

We deserved to go 2-1 down in the second-half, and it was a stroke of luck I guess that put Bolton down to 10-men. Of course after that we bossed them about, and deserved to win 3-2, but honestly? Rafa needs to sort this.

I don't like to berate Lucas as much as most Liverpool fans do, but Spearing should really be given a go in there, as he can't do much worse. Nothing is going right for the poor lad, and I think he needs a few weeks of training, just to get away from it, and get his himself in the right mindset. Also, having Spearing there, with his youthful exuberance could be like a breath of fresh air for the side, and instill some life into what has been a pretty tepid season so far.

Can't see Rafa giving him a go though.

Burnley are the next visitors to Anfield. I can almost see it now. Brian Jensen has a stormer, and they end up winning 1-0 or something.

Hopefully coming from behind will make the team more confident, and maybe some home-truths might even kick in...
